Greek and US troops conducted exercises in a military area near the village of Iskeche rocks (Petrohori), close to the border with Turkey. According to the spokesman, the inter-tank exercise-race, which took place between September 14-18, ended with the participation of a tank company associated with the United States Army Europe military force in Europe. The drill site is about 100 km from the border, he said.
The Greek army participated in the race exercise, which was held for the first time in Western Thrace, with Leopard 2A6 Hel tanks, while the tanker unit associated with the US military force in Europe participated with M1A2 Abrams tanks. Operational procedures with measurable objective criteria focused on small-scale tactics, firing techniques and technical issues of armored tanks were also evaluated in the exercise.
In the race drill, tests were evaluated based on the individual rating of each crew’s skills and, in particular, the accuracy of the combat crew’s shots. Photos of the exercise were published by the Greek General Staff.
