Ankara, Turkey – Turkey’s tourism revenue decreased by 71.2 percent in the third quarter of the year compared to the same period last year and amounted to 4 billion 44 million 356 thousand dollars.
Turkey’s tourism revenue figures released July-September 2020 period of this year, the Turkish Statistical Institute announced tourism statistics.
Accordingly, tourism revenue in the said quarter decreased by 71.2 percent compared to the same period last year and was 4 billion 44 million 356 thousand dollars. 71.6 percent of tourism revenue (excluding mobile phone roaming and marina service expenditures) was derived from foreign visitors and 28.4 percent from citizen visitors residing abroad.
3 billion 97 million 691 thousand dollars of expenses in the third quarter of the year were personal, and 946 million 665 thousand dollars were package tour expenses.
Average spending per person
The average per capita expenditure of visitors was $ 722, the average expenditure of foreigners was $ 649, and the average expenditure of citizens residing abroad was $ 969.
The number of visitors departing from Turkey decreased by 74.1 percent during the said period and was 5 million 604 thousand 155 people. 79 percent of them (4 million 430 thousand 53 people) were foreigners, 21 percent (1 million 174 thousand 102 people) were citizens residing abroad.
In this quarter, foreign visitors visited Turkey with 74.9 percent for the purpose of “sightseeing, entertainment, sports and cultural activities”. In second place was “visiting relatives and friends” with 15.8 percent, and in third place was “business (conference, seminar, mission)” with 3.3 percent. Citizens living abroad came to Turkey with 65.4 percent for the purpose of “visiting relatives and friends”.
Tourism expenses consisting of expenses of citizens residing in the country and visiting other countries decreased by 89.8 percent compared to the same quarter last year and were determined as 126 million 79 thousand dollars. 119 million 604 thousand dollars of this was recorded as personal, and 6 million 476 thousand dollars as package tour expenses.
The number of citizens visiting abroad decreased by 93.1 percent compared to the same quarter last year and was 203,223 people. Their average per capita expenditure was $ 620.
