Ankara, Turkey – “The Greek Cypriot Administration is not our interlocutor,” Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said, reacting to the statement of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, “We are ready to mediate between Turkey and Southern Cyprus if they want to.” Russia, if it wants, can make a transparent and balanced mediation between the TRNC and the Greek Cypriot Administration,” he said.
Last week, as tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean between Turkey and Greece continued, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that if both sides wanted to, they could mediate between Turkey and the Greek Administration of Southern Cyprus. Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu reacted to Lavrov’s statement.
Not our interlocutor
Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, who attended NTV’s live broadcast, reacted to the offer of mediation from Russia, saying that Southern Cyprus is the interlocutor of the Turkish Administration of Northern Cyprus, not Turkey. Cavusoglu, who told Russia that he can mediate between the TRNC and the Greek Administration if they want, said: “the interlocutor of the Greek Administration is the TRNC. I’ve already told Lavrov. If you want to mediate, you will go to the Turkish side of the island and listen to them,” he said.
