Ankara, Turkey – French Minister for Europe Clement Beaune and his Greek counterpart Haralambos Petridis flew a military helicopter around the Yavuz drilling ship in the region and the closed Marash under the TRNC administration, raising tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea by taking threatening steps against Turkey.

Turkey’s claim to legitimate rights in the Eastern Mediterranean continues to alarm Greece, France and the Greek part. The French administration has added another to its steps, which will increase tensions in the region.

French Minister for Europe Clement Beaune has travelled to Southern Cyprus for consultations on the agenda of Turkey-EU relations ahead of the European Council, which will meet on September 24-25.Greek media interpreted French Minister Beaune’s trip as ‘he wanted to see what happened with his eyes’.

Beaune met with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiadis and Foreign Minister Nikos Christodulidis. Beaune said at the bilateral meeting that France should be ready to use all the instruments the EU has on sanctions against Turkey.
