The foreign ministry reacted harshly to the European Parliament’s recommendation on Turkey on the Eastern Mediterranean.

“The recommendation of 17 September 2020, far from the facts, adopted at the General Assembly of the European Parliament only in the name of solidarity for EU membership and in order to serve the selfish interests of some member states, is unacceptable in many aspects.”as it were.

The ministry’s statement read:
The recommendation of 17 September 2020, which was adopted at the General Assembly of the European Parliament (EP) on developments in our country and the Eastern Mediterranean, in the name of solidarity with EU membership and in order to serve the selfish interests of some member states, is unacceptable in many aspects.

Despite our initiatives at all levels to all EU institutions, including Member States and the EP, the adoption of such a biased recommendation is incompatible with good faith and common sense.

AP is losing its reputation for its biased and unfair attitude and its invalid and unilateral interpretations of the law of the sea, which it does not have authority for.

Neither the EP, nor the EU, nor the EU member states, have the authority to determine the borders and jurisdictions of third countries. If the EP and other EU institutions are sincere about the solution and European reconciliation, they should only take a facilitating and conciliatory attitude, the candidate country should approach Turkey without prejudice, stand in favor of fairness and not take sides on controversial issues between countries.

Turkey has shown its goodwill, has not given up its correct and principled position in the face of maximalist and undeserved attitudes, and has taken a determined but common sense approach to provocative actions. Turkey, which has no eyes for anyone, will continue to defend the rights and interests of itself and the TRNC in the region arising from international law with the same determination.

Sincere dialogue and cooperation with the EU membership perspective for Turkey, who have been our minister in his address to the EP Foreign Affairs Committee meeting and in his letter to the members AP pointed out, in solving problems, always prefers dialogue and negotiation.

On the other hand, 9 of this EP recommendation, which invites the EU Council and commission to conduct a wide and comprehensive dialogue with our country and refers to energy cooperation with a comprehensive and strategic security architecture in the Eastern Mediterranean. article noted by us.
