JAthens, Greece – Joint statement against Turkey from Israel, Greece and Southern Cyprus.

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi and Southern Cyprus ‘ Nikos Christodoulides met in Athens. Speaking after the meeting, the foreign ministers accused Turkey of taking an aggressive stance, saying it was “understood about co-operation in the region.”

Speaking after meeting with Ashkenazi and Southern Cyprus Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides in Athens, Dendias said co-operation between the three countries was seen as “an antidote to Turkey’s revisionist tendencies in the region”, Greek media reported. “ Our region will not return to the understanding of the 19th century, ” Dendias said. The 21st century should be based on a common understanding of progress. These three countries will reshape the map, overcoming old stereotypes based on a new understanding of geography,” he said.

Dendias and Ashkenazi agreed to further deepen defense cooperation between Greece and Israel. Greek public opinion predicts that Greece will rise to a higher priority position in front of Israel in the future.

The top Israeli diplomat stressed that international law must be respected, noting that the goal of the tripartite cooperation is “to maintain unity in stability and defense and the security of the region”.

“We see this not only in Cyprus and Greece, but also in Syria, Libya and Iraq,” Christodoulides, the Foreign Minister of Southern Cyprus, blamed Turkey for the regional conflicts. Peace talks on the island need to resume,” he said.
