Washington, USA – US health and Social Services Minister Alex Azar has given a clear date for the coronavirus vaccine produced by US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer with BioNTech, a biotech company run by the couple of Prof Dr Ugur Sahin and Dr Özlem Türeci.

Alex Azar announced that distribution of the vaccine could begin immediately after December 10. According to Azar’s statement, the relevant unit of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will meet on this date for an emergency use license for the vaccine.

“If all goes well, we may be distributing the vaccine right after December 10, 2020,” the US minister said at a news conference on the coronavirus vaccine.

Alex Azar added that they could distribute the vaccine to all 64 regions within 24 hours of FDA approval.

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced that the coronavirus vaccine in question could be licensed in December and 1 million doses would be supplied to Turkey in the first place.

Dr Fahrettin Koca, Prof Dr Ugur Sahin and Dr Özlem Türeci couple managed by BioNTech company developed the vaccine in 2021, the amount of supply could increase to 25 million doses, he added.

The application to the US Drug Administration is based on results from phase three clinical trials of the vaccine. Vaccine trials began in the United States on July 27, 2020, and in the process, more than 43 thousand people were tried.

According to the final analysis from the tests, the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine was 95 percent effective in preventing coronavirus. The vaccine is also effective in the elderly and does not have any serious side effects.

Phase 3 trials of the vaccine included 42 percent of global participants from various backgrounds and 30 percent from the United States in terms of race and ethnicity.
