Washington, USA – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has announced approval for the sale of fighter jets and unmanned aerial vehicles to the United Arab Emirates.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has announced approval for the sale of fighter jets and unmanned aerial vehicles to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In a written statement before a news conference yesterday, Pompeo said he had informed Congress that the Trump administration had approved the sale of $ 23 billion worth of advanced weapons systems to the UAE.

The statement said it approved the sale of 50 F-35A Lightening II, worth $ 10.4 billion, 18 MQ-9B unmanned aerial vehicles worth $ 2.97 billion, and $ 10 billion worth of air-to-air, air-to-land missile munitions to the UAE.

The UAE had signed an agreement to normalize relations with Israel in September 2020.

Although Israel initially opposed the sale of the F-35 to the UAE, it later abandoned this objection.
