‘We do not expect a third country to intervene in the crisis’

Answering the question of whether Baku expects help from Turkey, Aliyev noted that they do not expect a third party to intervene in the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis, they do not see this possibility.

“Because the countries around us are our partners and friends. We know that the Armenian side is trying to draw them into conflicts, but I am sure that will not happen. This is a war between Armenia and us, everyone else should avoid it,” he said.

Asked how long the fighting will continue in the crisis zone, Aliyev said, “it depends on Armenia.”

Aliyev said that Azerbaijan is ready to stop military actions even today, “three times the conflict cease-fire and disputes providing we gave approval to move to the negotiating table, and we showed our desire for political dialogue. But each time Armenia has violated the ceasefire in a gross way,” he said.

Aliyev said that after every ceasefire for humanitarian purposes, Armenia targets civilian settlements near the line of contact in Azerbaijan.

Aliyev noted that the Azerbaijani army, unlike Armenia, only hit military targets, and said:

“We give our answer only on the battlefield. We’re not attacking cities or civilians. Of course, we have to defend ourselves. If they attack, if they want to reclaim the points they lost, we can’t stand still where we are. We need to defend ourselves. The more we defend, the more areas we save.”

‘We destroyed $ 2.7 billion worth of equipment belonging to Armenia’

Aliyev noted that the Armenian army destroyed $ 2.7 billion worth of military equipment.

“Where do they get the money to buy these weapons? Armenia is a poor country. Its budget is less than $ 2 billion. Its external debt is $ 8 billion, ” he said.
